I attended the Conclave of Richmond Pipe Smokers show in October, 1999, and met, as usual at such shows, a lot of great pipe people. Word got around that I was interested in these pyrolytic graphite pipes and J. L. (Scotty) Ruble sought me out on Sunday morning to offer this nice specimen. He had gone to so much trouble and was so proud of this rarity that he picked up unexpectedly in a lot on eBay, that I didn't have the heart to tell him I already had one. So I bought it from him and put it on the Pipes for Sale page. Michael Burke found the page and bought it from me.
